Engineers put a lot of time and effort in developping high quality finite element (FE) software (deal.II, Dune, Elmer,...). So I was wondering if some of those tools would be suitable for quantitative finance.
Do you sometimes use a software package for your FE valuation?
If yes which one?
Or is it the case that the current software solution does not accomodate finance well, and one must implement everything himself.
My use case are path-dependent options valuated through adaptative meshing. There, it usefull to have a visual representation of the cash flow, so that I can manually adapt the mesh.
We can say, I'm jealous of my engineers friends, who can visually adapt the mesh ,change the basis function, or do error estimates, without touching any code.
