2017 Moderator Election

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

This site is lost. It's a disaster. We're losing users so badly.

When universities send their people, they're not sending their best. They're bringing off-topic questions. They're bringing questions on career advice. They're racollege kids. And some, I assume, are grad students.

I will build the greatest firewall - and nobody builds firewalls better than me, believe me. I will build a great, great firewall on our network border. I will build a firewall and I will make universities pay for that firewall.

I will get my people to look into voter fraud. At least 30,000 of the downvotes I received were illegal. I have the highest reputation if you deduct the thousands of people who downvoted illegally.

Now, look at SRKX's face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next moderator? But lehalle - if lehalle wasn't my father, perhaps I'd be dating him.

Together, we will make Quant Stack Exchange great again.

I'm Bob Jansen and have been moderating Quant.SE for about two and a half years now. I have Bachelor in Econometrics, a Master in Quantitative Finance and am currently a 2017 Level III Candidate in the CFA Program .

I've mostly worked in Insurance, building models and analysing their inputs and results. I try to stay current on developments in (Quantitative) Finance and Programming and that was how I got involved here in the first place. Something I still very much enjoy.

I believe that in the time that I was a pro tem moderator I have succeeded in being reasonable in what is allowed on this site and have been sufficiently strict but still polite when it was necessary.

I would like to continue this and so I you will be elect me as a moderator.

You can find my answers to the questions on Meta here.

I am SRKX and I have been one of the Quantitative Finance site's moderators for the past 4 years.

I live in Hong Kong, which makes me a good candidate to interact in the APAC timezone while Europe and US are still asleep.

I have a mixed background between computer science and financial engineering, so I can understand questions which require both skills sets and help making sure they are formatted and classified as required to be answered properly.

I worked in a quite broad number of environments: hedge fund, physical commodities trader, asset manager, private bank. Therefore, I am able to understand the point of view of many different users of this site and sometimes clarify what might be lost in translation.

I think I have shown over the past 4 years that I have been successful at minimizing arguments between users without being too restrictive and I would love to keep being one of your moderators.

You can find all my answers to the election questionnaire here.

Dear all, as I explain on the dedicated meta page, I candidate this year mostly to experience the process rather than to be chosen. I have a lot of respect for SRKX, my goal is to be ready when and if he will be bored by moderating.

Who?

I am olaker and I have been around since the commitment phase of the Quantitative Finance site which arguably qualifies me as a relict. I have PhD in mathematics. My professional interests include quantitative portfolio management (equity, futures, FX) and option pricing. My career has shifted over the years from the relatively pure and unselfish pursuit of academic diversions to brutal tribulations of a hedge fund combat zone. I answered the Election Questionnaire here.

Why me?

  • I love handling flags and review queues. Moderation has made up most of my QF activity in recent years.

  • I constantly seek to improve and will take negative feedback well.

  • I expect my actions to stand to scrutiny.

Availability

  • I am usually logged in and active from 8 AM to 10 PM EST.
